Bio

Cheng Quartet

The Cheng Quartet was formed in 2015. All the four members are initially from Taiwan and now base in Amsterdam. The ensemble features Hui-Wen Winnie Cheng and Wan-Ru Cheng on violin, Shih-Hsien Sam Tsai on viola and Sheng-Chiun Rick Lin on cello. Since September 2016, the quartet has been committed to the joint program of  Netherlands String Quartet Academy (NSKA) and Conservatorium van Amsterdam (CvA), which provides them with intense coaching by professors Marc Danel, Gilles Millet, Vlad Bogdanas, Yovan Markovitch, Stefan Metz, Joachim Eijlander, Paul Scheepers, Dimitry Ferschtman and Kees Koelmans. They are attending masterclasses given by some of the most renowned musicians worldwide, such as Heinz Holliger, Eberhard Feltz (professor of Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin), Luc-Marie Aguera (Ysaÿe Quartet), Gerhard Schulz (Alban Berg Quartet), Petr Prause (Talich Quartet), Jonathan Brown (Cuarteto Casals),Vera Martinez (Cuarteto Casals), Mark Steinberg (Brentano Quartett), Cibrán Sierra Vázquez(Cuarteto Quiroga), Isabel Charisius(Alban Berg Quartett), Sally Pendlebury (Fitzwilliam Quartet), Enrico Bronzi (Trio di Parma, Italien)or Debussy Quartet etc. In 2017, Cheng Quartet was named the new fellowship quartet-in-residence at the Netherlands String Quartet Academy. In 2018, Cheng Quartet has been selected for taking part in Le Dimore del Quartetto project in Italy. Since October 2019, they started the Master Program of Chamber Music at the Hannover Musikhochschule with Oliver Wille(Kuss Quartet). January 2020, they won the second prize of Mendelssohn Competition.


Cheng Quartet has been invited to perform in Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Nationale Opera & Ballet, Leidse Schouwburg – Stadsgehoorzaal, TivoliVredenburg Utrecht, Conservatoire de Paris, Casa da Musica Porto, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian Lisboa and Maison de la Radio Geneva, among others.
